Room for up to 4 students who wish to explore “STILL LIFE GLORY” by painting in the studio and learning how to approach lighting and execution for painting a still life scene with an organic result using a Negative Space technique. Trick your brain by reversing the typical process for seeing what you paint rather than painting what you think you see. We will paint items on a tabletop setting; the subject will be plants and flowers when available locally. $75 class fee, one session x 2 for both dates. (Discount to members.) Additional $65 fee for a supply kit if required. Students are required to use their own tools each session. (Basic setup to include water cup, paper towels, brushes, palette knife or knives, & painting set-up: palette, paints, gel medium or glazing liquid, tabletop easel is optional, canvas or panel—6×6 up to 16×20.) Get in touch via text (706-889-1857) with questions.
In this course we will:
•Learn how to set our canvas up for success by toning the canvas or panel before you begin. We use Pro-QualityAcrylics with additives like gel medium or glazing liquids so that they behave like oils without the mess and odor.
•Learn to balance and proportion our subject to create artwork that not only pleases you but all those who peer atit. (Apply the Golden Ratio Rule)
•Learn how to use a negative space painting technique to create an organic feel in your artwork. (This process isreverse of how many typically begin their paintings.)
•Learn how to paint faster with less angst by reducing the number of strokes you apply—load those brushes with paint.
This course is only one of several Acrylic courses by Becca, held twice monthly. The list of topics covers a variety of techniques, tools, & practices. This year we explore:
•Color & Mixing: using a limited palette.
•Composition & Perspective: sketching w/brushes.
•Landscape Painting: Clouds & Sky, Trees, Farm Life.
•Palette Knife Training: flowers, buildings, landscapes.
•Painting the Landscape w/the Masters: brushstroke and texture.
•Still Life: Lighting & Approach: negative space technique.
Returning students help determine the subject/project we focus on each time.
