Brock Vickers’ Actors Workshop
14 December 2024From Brock’s Website: I love stories. I love thinking about characters, story arcs, and plot lines. I love the magic of discovering similarities between Shakespeare and Star Wars, between Samurai Jack and the Lord of the Rings. What better profession could there be for a boy who grew up playing make-believe in his backyard in Georgia? As far back as I can remember I was making up stories.
I was a Ronin Warrior, a Gundam pilot, or a Dark Knight. Acting is about action. “Act on the verb.” What does the character want? What drives them? We live in an age bombarded by communication platforms: podcasts, blogs, vlogs, email, text, twitter, Facebook, twitter, Instagram, and God knows what other platform we are so inclined to use; and yet, we have lost our ability to connect with one another.
We spend our whole day checking our phones, updating our social media, checking our notifications. Theatre is simple. It is about connections: connecting with the actor on stage, connecting with the playwright, the script, the idea, connecting with the story. But most importantly, it’s about connecting with the audience and inspiring them. To this day I can still remember seeing The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) for the first time and saying, “I want to do that.”
I also know exactly where I was sitting as I watched The Arden’s production of Equivocation and feeling so intellectually and emotionally moved that it was like rekindling a flame. I’ve sat in awe watching Irma Vep, The Play that Goes Wrong, and Noises Off! admiring the actors, directors, playwrights, and crew it takes to pull off those productions. Join him on December 14th 10am-1pm for a class in theater from auditioning to breaking down the text…
Attached is a video of a commercial Brock is in. His resume is extensive with his film, commercial and stage appearances. He has also appeared in Wolfwhistle (9 episodes), Sweet Magnolias (1 episode), Easter (4 episodes), and Tales of the Walking Dead (1 episode).
