The Society was founded in 1994 by a dedicated group of mandolinists to further the interest in and performance of the mandolin family of instruments and mandolin music. The Atlanta Mandolin Society continues this tradition through regional performances by
the Atlanta Mandolin Orchestra, the performing unit of the Society, that includes discussions of the musical and cultural heritage of the mandolin. The Atlanta Mandolin Society is a member of the Atlanta Coalition of the Performing Arts.
The Orchestra has performed at the High Museum in Atlanta, Cobb Energy Center, Brookes Chapel at Shorter University in Rome, GA, Go Arts Festival in Decatur, GA, Falany Performing Arts Center at Reinhardt College, the Scandinavian Festival in Marietta, GA, and many other festivals, assisted living facilities, and conferences.

Their music repertoire ranges from Turn of the Century Rags and Marches, Classical, Latin, Irish, Jazz, Brazilian, Ethnic, and POP to Seasonal composition.
The Atlanta Mandolin Society is proud to have revived the mandolin orchestra in Atlanta. For over thirty years there was a very fine mandolin orchestra in Atlanta under the direction of William Griffith. Mr. Griffith was a mandolin instructor, performer, conductor, and instrument dealer who operated in Midtown – Atlanta, GA. The Atlanta Mandolin Orchestra is establishing its own history today under the direction of Robb Smith, their conductor!
