Acrylics Class: Color Studies | Understanding Color Saturation
07 February 2025– Color Value Study
– Understanding Color Saturation
– Instructor: Becca Shuler
– Beginners to advanced
– February 7th, 2025
– 3-hour session (1-4pm)
It’s beneficial for every artist, beginners to advanced, to study Color Saturation. Learn by putting into practice what we discuss about the topic: understanding the three components of color: hue, saturation, and value. Color studies will be practiced at two saturation levels, muted or natural versus vivid or exaggerated color palette. Students will place color mix swatch samples into their sketch books for future reference.
Final painting will be created using the student’s favorite color study, 8×10 or 9×12, canvas or panel. Lesson plan includes inspiration images found through internet resources for desert landscapes. This lesson is only one of many where we stretch our skill set as artists. We typically meet on Friday’s 1-4pm, twice or more a month. If you prefer private sessions, reach out with a message.

Artist Bio: Becca Shuler Creative Engineer Experienced Educator Workshop Instructor
Becca Shuler came to Gilmer Arts during the pandemic years when times were tough. She has been a member of The Arts Guild (TAG) of Gilmer Arts Center since 2022. She teaches both Folk Art and Acrylic Painting workshops at the Gilmer Arts Center and has been since she became a member. She previously taught painting workshops (2016-2021) in a public studio setting inside of antique shops in Ellijay, Blue Ridge, and Jasper, Georgia.
She has past experience in teaching children during the summer camp program at Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association during 2014 and 2015. She creates all of the Lesson Plans and Class Demonstrations as well as the Material Lists for all of her workshops. She has reached “Super Host” status on Facebook Events where she has been hosting events since 2016. Becca has hosted a little less than 200 events for sharing art within North Georgia.
That is quite an achievement. “‘Super Host’ on Facebook Events is a clear designation given to a user who consistently creates high-quality, well-organized events, demonstrating excellent hosting practices by actively engaging with attendees, promptly responding to messages, and providing a positive experience, setting a standard for other event hosts on the platform; it’s a way to highlight the most reliable and well-regarded event creators.”
Becca’s students attest to her achieving this status honestly:
“What fun Becca’s events are to attend! They have inspired me and got my creative juices flowing. Thank you and keep up the good work.”—Susan Jane King of SueBee Arts on Facebook
“Well, after taking some of Becca’s barn quilt classes and some beginner painting classes painting barns, I can say for sure that Becca 100% deserves the status of Super Host on Facebook. She has always been accommodating to those who want to be in her class, she has posted clear instructions, and always does it with a very kind heart. I am grateful I found her.”—Laura Ellard
“I have learned so much from Becca. I am so happy I was introduced to her classes through the Gilmer Arts Center. She always comes prepared with a lesson plan and notes that I can use to reinforce concepts and skills while painting on my own. She is a capable teacher, and I appreciate how she has accommodated my temporary need for a private teacher while my husband recovers from a recent health situation. Art is so therapeutic.”—Brenda Wright
