Then off to CU/Boulder dance department where I lived most of the 1970’s…. thankfully. Not being a good fit in the dance department became an extraordinary opportunity. My new major in Religious Studies lead to my existentialist crisis and senior thesis – choreographing and performing my interpretations of Native American traditions. Thus the info you see in the program circa 1978. And now\, just now as I’m in my 70’s decade\, I awoke to an answered prayer\, i.e\, what now Sovereign of the Universe do I be? The answer fit like a glass slipper….actually a ballet slipper…. The Dance of Yoga. Inspired to move with the music of musicians that inspire me\, I called on my dear friends you see here with me this eve. Without them and the team support of beloved friends\, this would not happen. \nTo contact Ellie Lipton for more information call 678.777.6403

SUMMARY:Book Signing with Kenny Noble Cortes 5/2
DESCRIPTION:Kenny Noble Cortes is an American radio personality\, musician\, and prolific Christian songwriter. Kenny and his family crisscrossed the country\, working for radio stations in Houston\, Chicago\, Seattle\, L.A. and Miami coming to rest in Denver\, Colorado in 2003. In 2010 he joined the K-LOVE and Air1 Radio Networks for nearly seven inspiring years. After stepping down from K-LOVE and retiring from radio in the fall of 2016\, Kenny focused on his music. In December of that year\, he was invited to become the acoustic guitarist for the Christian rock band\, Renewed. After two great years including a God-given Easter Sunday concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver\, he and his wife Kay moved to North Georgia and settled into their new home in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. \n“Culture Jock” takes you from the author’s first crystal radio set to a hot air balloon crash to being named 1977 Major Market Air Personality of The Year while at KLOL Houston. Not only did the culture evolve during the upheaval years of the 60s\, 70s and continuing into the new century\, but the author\, a believer in Christ\, struggled to adapt\, and when he couldn’t\, his decades-long marriage and faith were at risk of disintegrating as he danced with the devil and returned to his favorite addiction and the ways of the world! \nIf you haven’t met Kenny during a performance at Acoustic Blends at Ellijay’s Premier Listening Room in The Playhouse\, you are in for a treat on May 1st when he signs his book\, answers questions\, and meets with book lovers in Ellijay\, at The George Link jr Gilmer Arts Playhouse. The public is welcome. No admittance fee\, books will be for sale.

SUMMARY:Appalachian Beverage Presents A Night of Surrender Hill with Mathew Von Doran & David Ellis and Special Guest Mike Blakely
DESCRIPTION:Tickets sold by the Ellijay Music Festival  \n \nAppalachian Beverage Presents  \nA Night of  Surrender Hill with Mathew Von Doran & David Ellis and Special Guest Mike Blakely \n\n  \nAbout \nRobin Dean Salmon and Afton Seekins Salmon are the heart and soul of Surrender Hill\, an Americana duo whose music weaves together soulful country\, roots rock\, and heartfelt storytelling. Now based in North Georgia\, this husband-and-wife team has built a reputation for their rich harmonies\, evocative lyrics\, and a sound that bridges rural American traditions with a global perspective. With a discography spanning multiple albums\, including their latest release River of Tears (2024)\, Surrender Hill continues to captivate audiences worldwide with their authentic\, lived-in songs and dynamic live performances. \nRobin Dean Salmon \nBorn in Durban\, South Africa\, Robin’s early life was shaped by the turmoil of apartheid\, prompting his family’s move to a Texas longhorn ranch in the early 1980s. Influenced by an eclectic mix of Bob Wills\, the Sex Pistols\, Marty Robbins\, and The Clash\, he began songwriting at 15 and later fronted the punk rock band See No Evil\, securing a major-label deal with Sony Music in New York City. After years in the rock scene\, Robin returned to his roots\, embracing alt-country and Americana. A seasoned producer and performer\, his work reflects a deep understanding of the human condition\, earning praise from peers like Rodney Crowell\, who calls him “smart\, funny\, poetic\, and in possession of a melodic wit.” \nAfton Seekins Salmon \nOriginally from Alaska\, Afton split her childhood between the rugged fishing village of Homer and the frontier town of Camp Verde\, Arizona. Raised in a hardworking family of entrepreneurs and instilled with strong ethics\, she found her passion in music and dance. After a successful stint as a choreographer in New York City during her 20s\, Afton returned to Arizona\, transforming her journal entries into soul-stirring songs. Her powerful voice—often compared to Dolly Parton and Bonnie Raitt—brings a timeless country resonance to Surrender Hill\, complementing Robin’s grittier tones with angelic harmonies. \nMusical Journey \nRobin and Afton met in 2013 at a gig in Sedona\, Arizona\, and formed Surrender Hill in 2014\, blending their distinct backgrounds into a unified sound. Their debut self-titled album arrived in 2015\, followed by acclaimed releases like Right Here Right Now (2017)\, Tore Down Fences (2018)\, A Whole Lot of Freedom (2020)\, and the ambitious double album Just Another Honky Tonk in a Quiet Western Town (2022). Known for their relentless touring—over 200 shows annually pre-pandemic—they’ve played everywhere from American wineries to South African resorts\, honing a live act that’s as raw as it is refined. \nWhy Surrender Hill \nNamed after a historic site in South Africa where the Anglo-Boer War ended\, Surrender Hill embodies resilience\, unity\, and the power of surrender—not to defeat\, but to love and creativity. Together\, Robin and Afton channel their colorful pasts into music that’s both personal and universal\, offering listeners a journey through struggle\, redemption\, and joy.

SUMMARY:Mike Kennebrew Band
DESCRIPTION:CS Lewis once remarked that “we read to know we are not alone\,” and countless people have traveled many miles across several decades to listen to Mike Kennebrew’s music for the same reason. He began writing songs as a teenager because he was “mesmerized by the way a song could reach out and grab you by the heart—or the throat\,” and his love for language burns through each of his songs\, whether he’s writing about everyday affairs like taking his kids to school and vacationing at the beach\, or more vulnerable subjects like his struggles with anxiety and alcohol. His single\, “What’s Left of Me\,” broaches the latter with a simple\, well-crafted melody and songs like “Where the Big Waves Are” and “Wrestle the Sea” tackle the former. He has a knack for finding the remarkable in the ordinary\, following in the South’s long lineage of great folk artist\, and draws from cross-genre influences like Tom Petty\, Gabe Dixon\, and Darrell Scott. Whether he’s solo or flanked by a full band\, Mike has mastered the art of making an audience feel a full range of emotions with a guitar in his hand. \n
