DESCRIPTION:Beginners – Advanced \nInstructor – Becca Shuler\nFriday\, October 2\, 1-4pm\nLocation – Classroom at Gilmer Arts Gallery \nDetails: In October\, let’s bring our knives out and practice our Palette Knife skill set with Acrylics and a great moving water reference. If you’d like to add this skill to your painting toolbox\, join us on two Fridays in October for palette knife. Mountains and smooth lake water is in second class on Oct 30. Come to both or attend the one of your choice. Adding texture and creating interest will be our focus for using our palette knives to paint a scene similar to the one shown. Feel free to call Becca with questions: 706-889-1857. \n\nEach month Becca selects something new to explore in acrylic paints. \nAll levels are welcome\, from Beginners to Advanced.\nMax students: 6.\nClass fee for one date is $90 (non-members)\, $81 (members).\nClass fee for both dates is $165 (non-members)\, $ 148.50\, (members).\nIf you have your own supplies\, be sure to bring the following items/products: Canvas or Panel (6×6\, 8×10\, or 12×12) Brushes for acrylics (size 4\, 6\, 8 flat or brights) Palette knives (at least 2 metal and flexible) Heavy Body acrylic paints (Liquitex\, Golden\, Artists Loft) Heavy Gel Medium (gloss\, Liquitex is a good brand) Water cup\, palette (paper or flat glass or panel –paper plates do not work well with palette knife painting) Paper towels If you wish to continue learning acrylics painting\, additional sessions continue monthly.\n\nSign up for both classes to extend your learning or attend one date of your choice. SUMMARY:Stained Glass Workshop with Warren Acree (Dates Below)
DESCRIPTION:Dates for next session are: 10/12\, 10/13\, 10/19\, & 10/20 \nClasses are Monday – Tuesday\, Monday – Tuesday. Warren will advise you of the time to be at the gallery based on your level. Class fee covers the equivalent of one 2-week session. \nGilmer Arts is proud to offer classes in Stained Glass Art.  The instructor\, Warren Acree\, began creating in stained glass in 2008 and has been teaching for Gilmer Arts since the summer of 2018.  The courses are designed to give the student a chance to learn the art of making stained glass designs without having to purchase any equipment or supplies. In February\, Warren will schedule with the student so that each person gets the time they need on the schedule. Classes are Monday and Tuesday\, primarily\, beginning at noon and working til 3. Its a flexible schedule\, roughly divided into: Lead Came Method instruction the first hour of the day\, Intermediate\, and then Beginner 1 & 2 \nThe photo is of some of the projects you can choose to complete.  \nThere are four courses in the series.  Beginner 1 teaches the basics for creating stained glass art.  Beginner 2 allows the student to practice these skills on larger or more difficult design.  The intermediate course teaches and utilizes a tool set that makes cutting repetitive shapes easier.  In the Advanced course\, the student constructs a lamp shade utilizing the skills learned in the intermediate course.  The following is a more detailed description of these courses. \n\nBeginner 1:  In the construction of two projects\, the student learns the processes for pattern-making\, cutting art glass into various shapes\, copper foiling\, soldering\, and finishing the project. The two projects will be chosen from 6 designs ( 3 for each project).  The first project consists of straight lines and angles and the second incorporates curves.  The course consists of 4 – 3 hour sessions.\nBeginner 2:  In the construction of one project chosen from several different designs\, the student gains additional experience in the art of stained glass plus learning pattern-making through enlargement of templates\, incorporation of glass nuggets and wire overlays into the design\, and utilization of zinc came (pronounced like the verb) for borders. This class is a good place for people with past experience to refresh their skills.  Being that the designs are all different\, this course can be taken more that once.  The course consists of 4 – 3 hour sessions.\nIntermediate:  In this course\, the student learns to use Morton Glass Work’s Portable Glass Shop tool set.  The student constructs at least two projects.  The course consists of 4 – 2 hour sessions.\nAdvanced:  In this course\, the student constructs a lamp shade consisting of four repetitive sides.  Through this project\, the student learns pattern-making\, jig construction\, lamp assembly and finishing and lamp spider construction.  Student is expected to have procured the basis tool set for copper foiling\, perform part of the work at home between classes\, and provide the art glass used for the project..  The course consists of 4 – 2 hour sessions.

If you’d like to add this skill to your painting toolbox\, join us on two Fridays in October for palette knife. \n\nMountains and smooth lake water is in second class on Oct 30.\nCome to both or attend the one of your choice.\nAdding texture and creating interest will be our focus for using our palette knives to paint a scene similar to the one shown.\nAll levels are welcome\, from Beginners to Advanced.\nMax students: 6.\nClass fee for one date is $90 (non-members)\, $81 (members). DESCRIPTION:Warren will be bringing back his popular Christmas Ornament Workshop on November 7th at the Gallery. \nThree (3) people will be let into the workshop each half hour. You will be able to make two ornaments in approximately 2.5 hours. Trained and capable volunteers will assist Warren in teaching you the basics of Stained Glass ornament making. You will move from station to station and be assisted at each station in creating your own ornament for your tree or to use as a gift. \nChoose the time you want to come join the fun. If you find that you need to change your time that day call 706.635.5605 and we’ll work out something. Pictured are designs that are available. This is Warren’s fundraiser for Gilmer Arts.
