Storytelling Workshop with Melanie
November 9 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pmFree
From the page to the stage…. Whether you want to tell a tale on stage, or become a better storyteller around the dinner table, this workshop will introduce you to everything you need to craft a 5-7 minute story and present it.
The first half we will look at what are the different types of stories to tell? Where do you get ideas for stories? What hooks us into a story? What keeps us engaged? How do you plan a story? Storyboarding, reverse planning, or outlining? How do you choose a point of view, develop a character, and paint a picture all using economy of words and word play? We’ll discuss all this and so much more.
The second half of the workshop we will focus on performance techniques such as learning your story, timing, voice, movement, building confidence and receiving feedback.
If time permits you may have your first chance to take the stage!
About Melanie Knauff:
Whether she’s telling of her experience losing weight eating dog treats, expounding on her husband’s fears of bears, buffalos and volcanoes, or just describing escapades with her mother-in-law, she’ll make you laugh. This probably explains why she was the winner of the Big Fibbers contest in Rome,Georgia and runner up in the Hagood Mill Liar Contest. She performed for the nationally acclaimed Listen to Your Mother show. And she’s told folk tales, personal tales, and, of course, big lies at numerous festivals throughout Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas. Now retired after twenty-two years of teaching, she is hitting the stage to make tears run down your legs.
