Class – Plein Air with Figures (1.5 day class)

We will learn fundamentals of Plein Air painting including figures. Our focus will be café settings. Students will learn the value of preliminary sketches, underpainting, value study and simplifying the figures as shape and value in a design. Each student will complete one to two pieces. It is permissible to use acrylics, but oil is your instructor’s choice. Good for all levels of painters.

Lydia Ellis is a native born Georgian, who received her formal training at Georgia State University in painting and drawing. She taught 13 years with Clayton State College and 15 years with various galleries and art centers in Fayetteville and Newnan, Georgia. She now teaches from her home studio in Fayetteville, and travels for PleinAir events and workshops. In the last 5 years she has won 2 open QuickDraw events at Forgotten Coast en PleinAir and won recently in Gilmer Arts, Art in the Mountains event. She has also been published in Art Connoisseur and PleinAir magazines. Her strength lies in color and design, with a unique perspective of her subject matter. Lydia enjoys spaces with dramatic perspectives, from layered umbrellas to alleyways. She also enjoys including figures, unaware of her presence, as points of interest. She enjoys telling a story with her pieces that invite the viewer in.
