GFA Friends,

Thanks to Warren for the tasty foods & to Debbi for the creative hands on exercise of working with surface design on fibers.

The next meeting is September 17 starting at 10:00 with food & social time. Tony Szep will provide food & Sabrina Fravel will speak to us about her experiences with Open Air Art Shows.  Come join us!

The Resident Artist Program is in the planning stages with Warren Acree heading the team. He’ll be sharing more information about this exciting opportunity at the meeting.

The Gilmer Arts BEST series in November will feature Ed Chail & his beautiful work.  Ed is from Marietta, consummate Plein Aire painter here in our area, a regular participant at the Plein Air, Art in the Mountains event,  and did a workshop for us last Spring.  You don’t want to miss this reception & chance to see his work and meet the artist!  Dates will be given at the next meeting.

See you September 17 & happy creating!

Draft of the Artist in Residence Program

Announcing the beginning of the “Artist in Residence” program sponsored by the Gilmer Fine Artist group. A program to allow local artist to showcase their work in a studio environment by recreating their studio at Gilmer Arts and to allow for a demonstration of their talents while working on original art. The program is open to all forms of visual arts for which the studio environment can be easily setup at Gilmer Arts. Artist participating in the program are encouraged to display their completed work and hopefully generate some sales. A maximum of two artist per weekend.

This is to be an open environment allowing the artist to interact with the public: allowing the public to ask question to the artist, for the artist to receive feedback, and for Gilmer Arts to find out what the public is interested in seeing.

The first weekend for this event will be during Apple Festival this year and hopefully run on a continuing bases. During Apple Festival, the “Artist in Residence” program will run for both weekends. For other months, it will ge the 3rd weekend of the month.

Local artist who are members of Gilmer Arts are requested to volunteer to become a part of the program by calling Gilmer Arts.

We will be advertising this program to the community through the Chamber of Commerce calendar, piggybacking advertising for other events at Gilmer Arts, and placing fliers and placards in downtown businesses.
