Classes for this session will be March 18, 25, April 1, & 8 Noon-2pm
Week 1: Color Theory - Acrylics can be as easy as oils
2-3 hours depending on student aptitude(s) - Learn how to use Acrylics so that they behave like oils. Purchase of a supply kit is required. Becca provides a list of additional supplies for you to complete your painting supply inventory and be able to work at home.
Class discussion leads to enlightenment about color. This week's session ends with a small landscape painting. Learn how to mix colors to match the scene you are painting and create artwork unique to you. This class prepares the student to participate in a Plein Air event if they wish (Gilmer Arts Plein Air weekend starts May 20th and Becca invites students to attend a Plein Air event once a year.)
Weeks 2-4: Planning, Proportion, & Painting - Practicing Perspective while painting a Landscape
Class participants will choose from Landscapes with Barns, Bridges, Mountains, or Trees & Water.
These three sessions are 2 hours each. During the course of 3-weeks, we discuss the ins and outs of the 3Ps of painting: Planning, Proportion, & Painting. Class discussions help establish how we proceed, finishing with a large painting (16" x 20"). We begin with a drawing lesson on perspective landscapes. Next, we set up our color palette-selecting or mixing 3 shades of each color to provide depth with shadow and light. Finally, we add details to complete our artwork.
All along the journey we learn how the acrylic paint changes when it dries and see what we can do to bring our painting to life. Everyone ends up with a MASTERPIECE! (Each set of courses is designed loosely to accommodate the students. Students often decide on the scene that we paint.)
